Sunday at the Half Way Point

Today was a jam-packed wander though all sorts of welcome parties, exploring, and friendships.

We arrived safely at the dorms at 3:30am last night and we were absolutely whipped. So after the amazing Kathy Carpenter met us to pass out keys and get us settled, we crashed unceremoniously into our beds.

This morning found us getting into the swing of things. The official first CHIC event was dinner at 5pm. So from 9am to 5pm all we needed to do was meet people, hang out at the welcome party and explore UT.

When we gathered before dinner, I did some interviewing to get a sense of what people were enjoying. Click through the break for all the mini-interviews:

Quinn Ramsey
Austin and I raced each other through the inflatable obstacle course. And to make it more exciting the loser had to do ten push ups. I made the mistake of rolling to finish line and Austin launched into a head-first dive to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. And I did my pushups.

Kelly Mossman
I met up with Kyra who is one of the people I made friends with at MUD Retreat at Cascades Camp this winter.

Ted Stephens
I leapt from the 3 meter spring board today. And it was a rush. I don't think I've gone off a diving board that high in 30 years. Austin says, "I loved diving too!!!"

Erin, Hanna, Nora, and Kelsie
We all slept through the entire free time. It was AWESOME!

Kayla Tingstad
I loved the bands that were down at the Welcome Parry! The Wrecking was unbelievably amazing and I now have a full on band crush shared with my new friend Bailey from Kansas. Check out our photo with the band!

Miranda Marburger & Rachel Douglass
Swimming in the big pool down at the Hub was awesome. The weather was warm and the pool was cool. And all the people in the crowd were chanting for the divers to do belly flops. Hilarious!

Eli Wills
The bands were far and away my favorite thing. Especially The Wrecking. Also the graffiti wall was awesome and they kept giving us a free stuff. It was like Christmas. But really, really hot.

Kevin Hobson & Tyler Reber
Eating mass amounts of hush puppies and working on answering big questions about God and life was pretty stellar.

And there you have it straight from many students mouths. Those were a selection of a few best things from our first half of the first day at CHIC.
